Abstract
Conceived as a doctoral thesis at the confluence of the 60s and 70s, under the guidance of Sigismund Toduţă and published in 1977, Vasile Herman`s paper proposes a method of analysis of the musical fact, on structural bases. Musical form and style are placed in a dichotomous relationship in a system in which elements are interrelated, in a relation of mutual determination. The analysis of the local musical phenomenon takes into account the influence of the folklore, seen in this context as a style-generative factor. The concise but pertinent analyses, the sober arguments, the then fresh musical examples, reveal a deep connoisseur of Romanian music. The paper reveals the musician`s system of thinking (compatible with the European context), while making at the same time some subtle references to his creation. The paper incites to meditation and deep reflection, being written in a sober and even ascetic, though enlightening style
Keywords: analytical investigation method, Romanian musical creation, structuralism, the form-style relationship, morphology and structure
